If so, the license key should be an a sticker on the laptop. The only way to use this license, is by installing an OEM version (for example, the recovery media delivered with the computer). If the installation was done with this original key, you are entitled to the license and it should activate.

If the license has not been abused they will supply you a code for manual activation. If the computer is installed with another type of installation media you can only do a reinstallation with the correct media.
